Future curators

Future curators

The British Museum’s first HLF Skills for the Future programme, Future Curators, ran from 2011 to 2015. The programme supported three cohorts of trainee curators to develop specialist collections knowledge and broad curatorial skills, who spent a total of 18 months at the British Museum and UK partner museums taking part in a work-based training initiative.

Museum Pathways

The British Museum’s second HLF Skills for the Future programme, Museum Pathways, supported one cohort of seven trainees from 2014 to 2016.

Trainees undertook an 18-month placement in practical collections management, care and access skills, hosted by the British Museum and partner museums in Greater London.

Learning Museum

The British Museum’s third HLF Skills for the Future programme, Learning Museum, is underway from 2014 to 2017.

The programme is supporting 20 young people from diverse backgrounds to undertake a year-long vocational training placement at UK partner museums, developing practical skills in collections care, management and access.

Leadership Training Programme

Museum professionals from institutions across India are taking part in an initiative designed to support the development of museum leaders as a way of helping facilitate change in the Indian museum sector.

The programme is a collaboration between the British Museum, the Ministry of Culture in India and the National Culture Fund.
